History
GBL was formed in 2002, initially as “Great Basin Lighting”. The name Great Basin Lighting was chosen to recognize founder Steve Cole and his love of the rugged region, where the agency initially focused. Steve Cole comes from a family of lighting and electrical professionals. Steve’s father Earl would often profess that “Lighting is Exciting!”
Steve began his lighting career in 1991 working for a Bay Area distributor that supplied electrical underground and outdoor lighting products primarily for home builders’ new construction. Steve then realized he had found his passion and dedicated his career to lighting and infrastructure.
