City of San Bruno Solar Streetlight Conversion

San Bruno CityThe city of San Bruno is located 12 miles south of San Francisco, on the San Francisco peninsula. Fog and low overcast are common in the summer months but that didn’t stop the city from deciding to convert its troublesome unreliable, and obsolete regulated output (RO) street lighting system to solar-powered streetlights.

The city began the process to explore solar options in 2023 and after an exhaustive evaluation selected GridShift, represented by GBL Infrastructure Solutions. The GBL team, and GridShift application engineers, worked closely with city staff to understand its climate, neighborhood site conditions, lighting criteria and overall goals and objectives. GBL and its partner GridShift, provided the client the conceptual design, photometric design, product specification details, and structural engineering services. To ensure success and address the challenging climate, GridShift modified its popular Predator series product to maximize solar exposure and battery run times. GBL’s project management team coordinated the overall project which included documentation management, quote and order placement, shipment, delivery, installation support and commissioning.

Phase 1 of the conversion is now complete, and citizens are once again experiencing
well lit, safe streets.
